Completion of the first Training Modules of the “SeaHealth” platform!

The completion of the first 3 Training Modules of the “SeaHealth” platform is a fact!
These are the Modules:

1. Basic Life Support:

The aim of this course is to provide learners with necessary information regarding Basic Life Support. By the end of this course the learners will be able to:

  • Comprehend when a victim needs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, identify when a victim is breathing and apply the knowledge of chest compressions and rescue breaths.
  • Recognize when they need to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Identify how to use an AED safely and effectively.
  • Understand how to handle severe cases of choking and how to perform the Heimlich maneuver.
  • Identify all the steps for placing a victim in the recovery position.

 

 

2. Cardiovascular Emergencies:

The aim of this course is to raise awareness regarding Cardiovascular Emergencies that might arise onboard vessels. By the end of this course the learners will be able to:· Understand the burden of cardiovascular disease.· Identify the reasons cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death worldwide.

  • Comprehend basic information on how to prevent and be alert for cardiovascular events.
  • Understand what a heart attack or myocardial infarction is, understand or suspect when someone is having a heart attack, identify its symptoms and signs and provide first aid assistance and ask for medical treatment.
  • Understand or suspect when someone is having a stroke, identify basic stroke symptoms and signs, provide first aid assistance and know when specialized medical treatment is needed.
  • Understand when to worry if someone presents with chest pain

 

 

3. Infections:

The aim of this course is to raise awareness regarding Infectious diseases that might arise onboard vessels. By the end of this course the learners will be able to:

  • Understand and suspect what infections or infectious diseases really are, comprehend the basic causes of infectious diseases, identify basic symptoms and signs of infections in humans, identify the basic rules of protection against common infectious diseases.
  • Understand and suspect when someone is having a common cold, identify what common cold really is about and distinguish it from the flu, provide basic medical support and know when medical attention is needed.
  • Understand and suspect when someone is having pneumonia, identify basic pneumonia symptoms and signs, provide basic medical assistance and know when specialized medical treatment is needed.
  • Understand and suspect when someone is having meningitis, identify basic meningitis symptoms and signs, provide basic medical assistance and know when basic medical treatment is needed.
  • Comprehend what diphtheria is, recognize which are the main symptoms and signs of diphtheria and identify which is the treatment for diphtheria.
  • Understand when someone has malaria, identify the basic symptoms and signs of malaria and comprehend the basic preventive measures against malaria.

 

 

All SeaHealth training modules were created by the 1st Academic ENT Clinic of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UOA) and developed by SQLearn. The training material was evaluated by a team of seafarers of Danaos Shipping while attending the e-courses and completing a satisfaction questionnaire.
