The Research team of the 1st First University Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), published a scientific article entitled «An e-learning platform for managing seafarers’ health issues onboard: pilot use on the Greek shipping industry» authored by Kanella Zerva, Aikaterini Drylli, Aristeidis Chrysovergis, Georgios Chrysovitsiotis, Efthymios Kyrodimos, hosted in the magazine «International Journal of Community Medicine and Public Health».
The scientific article includes the findings of research conducted by the scientific team of the University’s ENT Clinic, within the framework of the final working module of the project, for finer check of the results at implementation in actual maritime population that enrolled at Seahealth platform. This research involved crew members of shipping companies from the contact network of SQLearn and Danaos Companies.
The survey was implemented in the port of Piraeus (Attica, Greece) during the period November 2021- to February 2022. Questionnaires were collected by merchant seafarers at Piraeus Port, after the observation of the Seahealth e-learning platform. A descriptive statistical analysis was performed by SPSS v23.0® and Microsoft excel© 365. The analysis of the data showed the following conclusions: Participants that enrolled in Seahealth improved their basic first aid medical skills and encourage them in the effective handling of medical emergencies onboard.

The research project “E-Learning platform for Seafarers for first aid and health issues” -SeaHealth, is part of the Operational Program “Competitiveness Entrepreneurship and Innovation” of “RESEARCH – CREATE – INNOVATION” and is implemented by SQLearn and DANAOS companies in partnership with the 1st Academic ENT Clinic of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UOA).
